Dates: April 27 and 28 Prerequisites: RCABC Lakewater Levels 1-4 This course is both for those wanting to become Level 1 Lakewater Instructors, and Level 2 Instructors. Anyone wishing to achieve the Level 2 instructor level during this weekend should come prepared to challenge the course. The RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 Certificate allows you to teach Lakewater Levels 1 and 2, while the RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 2 certificate enables you to teach and certify RCABC Lakewater Levels 1-4, including teaching the solo and tandem circuits. RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course and Paddle Canada Intro Tandem and Solo Instructor course . May 3rd (Evening) 4th and 5th - Coquitlam - Buntzen Lake $240 plus GST. This course, is for teachers and people working with youth, who are experienced paddlers, and wish to receive Canoe Instructor certifications and be able to certify their students. It will cover the competencies and content for the new RCABC Lakewater Instructor Level 1 course. This course certifies successful candidates to teach RCABC Lakewater Level 1 and 2. It will also include the Paddle Canada Intro Tandem and Solo Instructor course which allows successful candidates to teach PC's Intro, Canoeing Basics and Waterfront Skills. Candidates should be strong paddlers and have experience paddling both Tandem and Solo. The course fee does not include the membership fee for either organization which must be paid prior to the course. Rental canoes are available. Lakewater Level 1 is a basic introduction to tandem canoeing. It includes the key information and skills you'll need for going on your own lake trips: controlling your canoe, handling capsizes and rescues, required and recommended equipment, safety guidelines, packing your canoe, handling wind and waves, and launching & landing. No prerequisites. Boat and gear rental available. Lakewater Level 3: Prerequisite: Lakewater Level 2 or equivalent, though even if you are a new paddler, you may take the combination of Level 1 and 3 together (ie, the whole weekend). Refine your tandem paddling skills and communication through detailed instructor feedback and circuit practice. May 11/12 and May 18/19. This 3 day clinic will run from 9-5 daily and prepare the paddlers for the Lakewater Instructor 2 exam on the 4th day. Successful completion will allow you to teach and certify all 4 levels of RCABC Lakewater courses. It will include: course prep, group dynamics and management, paddling skills and teaching practice. Prerequisite: RCABC Advanced Tandem and Solo. All canoes and paddling equipment are supplied. Come join the Thompson River Interior Paddle-sports Club for a weekend of basic moving water training May 11-12. We will be paddling out of Pioneer Park on day 1 and learning about strokes and maneuvers for travelling on the river and interacting with current. On day 2 we will head out for a longer day trip. Want to learn how to canoe safely? Don't have your own canoe?This is the entry level tandem canoe course for you. No experience needed and all paddling equipment is supplied. You will learn how to: enter/exit a canoe from both dock and shore, what safety equipment you need and how to use it, canoe over canoe rescues, paddling in a straight line and turns, switching ends. It recognizes that capsizes are inevitable and the best strategy is to learn to deal with them quickly and safely. River rescue Level 1 is an in depth practice session of what to do after capsize in a variety of situations. It can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your paddling style, such as: -Wilderness river tripping (skirted or loaded canoes) -Whitewater playboating -Solo or tandem canoeists The course is excellent for canoeists in leadership roles, but was developed to help all canoeists build their rescue and self rescue ability and confidence.
